The Oracle Project

Place

Oracle: A shrine at which inquiries were made to a deity, a person who delivers authoritative or wise pronouncements.

"Oracle" is a sculptural seat influenced by the crescent moon, fabricated in steel. yet possessing it's own spirit. Now it has inspired a gallery installation, consisting of different elements of itself. The chair will be presented in the center of the room, dimly lit, perhaps surrounded by a pool of water. On the walls will be enlarged photographs of the chair with the various people chosen sit in it. These photographs will include people from many walks of life, each a unique part of the composition. Artists, dancers, musicians, a chef, a judge, the everyday and the famous. Each person will be asked to related their feelings while seated in the "Oracle" These will be taped and bits and pieces of their inner thoughts will be linked together in a sound installation, (perhaps in a separate room.)

For the photographs, we will present the chair in whatever setting will relate to the model, choosing a place that they are in their element, whether in a studio setting , a garden, a kitchen, each will personify that particular person. We intend to photograph as many people as possible is varying situations and will choose the most appropriate for the larger photos. The others will be presented in a separate room along with their thoughts written along side.

The ultimate intent would be to publish this project as a book following the show.( Or in coordination with it's opening)
